Abstract

Lexical effects in reading pseudowords in Spanish are studied. In the first 2 experiments lexical (analogical) effects on pseudowords similar to those of Glushko (1979) are found. In the third experiment, semantic priming effects are found in both naming and lexical decision tasks. These results are inconsistent with theories that propose different reading mechanisms for languages with shallow and deep orthographies.
